THE FAMILY BEHIND THE TRAILER

THE CREW

We're the family behind Where They Explore. Two adults, two kids, often our two best friends, one camping trailer, and a habit of turning 'quick weekend away' into 'when can we come back?' If our adventures inspire your next weekend away, then we've done exactly what we set out to do.

MEG

The planner, the packer, the one holding the phone

Meg plans the trip, packs the trip and films the trip, usually all at the same time. After fifteen years behind the camera making other brands look good, she finally pointed it at her own family and discovered they do not take direction. She has a list for everything and a backup list for the list.

She once tried to domesticate a mongoose on a camp and has been known to reverse a trailer in the first try (with lot's of direction from Theo)

THEO

Trailer captain, braai-master and chief “it’ll be fine” officer

Theo is in charge of the trailer, tools, mods, the fire and the general vibe. He reverses into campsites with the quiet confidence of a man who has done it a hundred times, and the slightly sweaty confidence of a man being filmed doing it. He believes every problem can be solved with cable ties, a good braai and patience, in that order. When things go sideways, he says it’ll be fine. It is usually fine.

He once tripped over a awning rope 11 times in 4 hours.

THE KIDS

Head of mud,FUN FACTS and head of snacks

The kids are the reason we camp the way we do. They find every puddle, every rock pool and every patch of mud within a five kilometre radius, usually five minutes after a bath. They can hear a packet of chips open from across the campsite and have never once been tired at bedtime.

The kids are the ones in charge .. we just work here

CAMPSITES

Western Cape spots we've actually slept at, with the good bits and the bits we'd skip next time.

GEAR REVIEWS

Honest reviews of the gear we actually use. If it broke on day two, you'll hear about it.

THE ODD DISASTER

Rain, wind, forgotten camping chairs. Camping isn't always pretty and we don't pretend it is.
